New Vaalharts extension approved without community participation

The AfriForum branch in Vaalharts launched a petition over a new extension in the area. Although the community is not against such an extension, the general consensus in the community is that they had no part in the planning of this new extension.

They also feel that other service delivery matters should be resolved urgently before a new extension can be considered.

“The Phokwane Municipality is already unable to provide sufficient services to the community, and will most definitely not be able to service an additional extension. There are also legal matters relating to the approval of such an extension,” says Theo Joubert, Chairperson of the AfriForum branch in Vaalharts.

Linja van Wyk, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Northern Cape, says that AfriForum will investigate and ensure that the necessary processes have been followed.

The local branch will present the petition to the Municipal Manager on 17 February 2017 together with an application in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000.

The Vaalharts branch also warned the Phokwane Municipality earlier the month after numerous complaints were received from the Jan Kempdorp community over the illegal occupation of the municipal terrain, Guldenskat.

Support the petition by sending an SMS with “Nkandla” to 32532 (R1).
