Increase in E. coli in the Blesbokspruit.
The Blesbokspruit, which flows through Springs, Nigel and Heidelberg, is being seriously polluted by sewage. The Blesbokspruit is one of the main influents into the Vaal River and an important part of the Blesbokspruit Wetland, in which various fauna and flora species are being protected. The river also flows through many informal settlements, where many adults and children are exposed to the river directly. AfriForum’s Springs branch has been testing the river over the past three years as part of the annual blue en green drop project and found a significant increase in E. coli in the0 water.
The Ekurhuleni Metro fails to address the problem. AfriForum therefore encourages the community to sign our online petition by adding their name to the complaint that will be brought against the Metro. The petition closes on 15 November 2018.
