Extensive pothole project launched in Potchefstroom

The AfriForum branch in Potchefstroom will be concentrating on repairing potholes in the town over the next ten months.

Hendrik Oosthuizen, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for North West, says that the branch is contemplating repairing approximately 500 potholes.

Dirk Venter, community member and Head of the branch’s Local Government Affairs portfolio, started this initiative by repairing potholes across the town himself and at his own expense.

“It is a privilege for me to now tackle this project in cooperation with AfriForum. We are planning on repairing approximately 50 potholes each month,” Venter says.

Oosthuizen says that the Potchefstroom branch is also encouraging all AfriForum branches countrywide to tackle similar projects.

“We cannot sit and watch how the infrastructure of our towns is disintegrating. We must seek and implement solutions ourselves,” Oosthuizen concludes.
