#AnchorTownRoadShow campaign: Neighbourhood watches in Tzaneen and Phalaborwa receive training

AfriForum on 6 July 2019 presented training to the Tzaneen and Phalaborwa neighbourhood watches. This training forms part of the organisation’s #AnchorTownRoadShow campaign and was attended by 36 neighbourhood watch members.

The neighbourhood watch members attended a series of safety modules during the training with the aim of combatting crime in their various communities, as well as to assist community members and make them more prepared. The modules included crime scene handling, legal aspects, hearth and home protection, as well as the functioning of intelligence. Members were also informed surrounding the neighbourhood watch protector.

“AfriForum is proud to present this type of training to our neighbourhood watches – it empowers neighbourhood watch members to combat crime in their communities within the framework of the law,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Head of Safety for the Northern Region.

Coetzer furthermore says that the time has come for communities to stand together, regardless the organisations involved. Communities can only protect themselves by means of pursuing a common goal.
