AfriForum’s Tzaneen branch and SAPS unite against crime
The AfriForum branch in Tzaneen yesterday confirmed its cooperation with the South African Police Service (SAPS) by presenting a copy of the cooperation agreement that was signed on 16 January 2017 between AfriForum and the SAPS in Centurion to Maj. Gen. Maggy Mathebula, Tzaneen’s Cluster Commander.
“This agreement means that AfriForum is now officially acknowledged as a partner in the battle against crime and that the SAPS is willing to work with us on a local and national level. It is important for AfriForum to be involved in safety operations within the framework of the law with the SAPS,” says Pieter Venter, Chairperson of the AfriForum branch in Tzaneen.
“This agreement does not only improve cooperation between AfriForum and the police, but also within communities. AfriForum encourages all safety institutions and initiatives to also work with the police in the battle against crime,” says Louis Naude, Chairperson of the Safety Portfolio of the AfriForum branch in Tzaneen.
Naude furthermore says that AfriForum is making a plea to members of the community to become involved at their local AfriForum branch.
Chris Boshoff, AfriForum’s Regional Coordinator for Limpopo, says this branch is also contemplating the idea of establishing a neighbourhood watch in the near future.
