AfriForum’s Benoni neighbourhood watch receives equipment

AfriForum’s Benoni branch received new safety equipment in January after the local branch identified this need due to an increase in criminal activities in the area. The equipment includes eleven bulletproof vests, a night vision apparatus, patrol lights, first-aid kits and pepper spray.

“With the current growth in AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches in the East Rand, it is extremely important that patrollers are equipped with the correct outfits. The neighbourhood watch forms part of AfriForum’s local branch structure and has the purpose of supporting the community in times of need alongside other safety institutions,” says Gerald Green, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Benoni branch.

“Proper equipment enables the neighbourhood watch to actively contribute to the prevention of crime in this area. The neighbourhood watch will henceforth focus on supplementing its equipment and on the reinforcement of training to ultimately empower patrollers to proactively make a difference in the community,” says Archie Mouyis, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Benoni neighbourhood watch.

“We urge the community to become involved with the local branch and neighbourhood watch. The more people are involved, the greater the difference we could make,” concludes Green.
