AfriForum launches visibility patrol after Magnolia Dal murders

AfriForum’s East Moot neighbourhood watch on 22 June 2019 executed a visibility patrol after five homeless people were murdered over the last two weeks in the Magnolia Dal region.

The neighbourhood watch members patrolled on foot and via vehicle during the action to improve visibility in the area, as well as to crack down on criminal activities.

“The attacks on homeless people cannot be ignored. AfriForum’s structures are here to offer assistance to communities and improve safety. AfriForum will continuously hold these actions to support communities,” says Andries Opperman, Chairperson of AfriForum’s East Moot neighbourhood watch.

“In instances like these the community – which has the necessary resources at its disposal – must stand up for those people whose voice cannot be heard,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Head of Community Safety for the Northern Region.
