AfriForum branch in Pretoria East spent more than R100 000 on potholes

The AfriForum branch in Pretoria East executed a do-it-yourself project between 27 and 30 March 2017 where potholes in and around Hoërskool Waterkloof were repaired at a cost of more than R100 000. After the potholes were filled, lines of roughly 40 m were painted.

Hoërskool Waterkloof approached AfriForum to take on this project, because the potholes pose a threat for learners due to vehicles that swerve to avoid these potholes.

The services of Roadchem, a local contractor, was called in. A total of 808 m2 of potholes were filled for which 25 tonnes asphalt, 1 000 litres seal coat, 600 kg crack seal and 800 litres of sealant was used.

“The community approached AfriForum to properly address municipal service delivery issues. The repair of potholes is a priority for us and we will take it up with the Tshwane Metro Council,” says Lambert de Klerk, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Greater Pretoria.

De Klerk adds that this will be an ongoing project and that AfriForum will take on similar projects during the course of the year.

“I encourage more schools and residents to report poor service delivery so that we can take on these projects,” says De Klerk.
