AfriForum branches hand over wish list to Mbeki Municipality

The AfriForum branches in Secunda and Bethal delivered a wish list to Mmela Mahlangu, Municipal Manager of the Govan Mbeki Municipality on 7 February 2017.

This follows after both branches identified various community problems and priorities that should form part of the Municipality’s integrated development plan (IDP).

“Mr Mahlangu took note at the meeting of the problems listed in our wish list, and undertook to add it to the Municipality’s IDP and take the necessary action. However, he emphasised that the Eskom situation now receives priority,” says Frits Adendorf, the Bethal branch’s Chairperson for Local Government Affairs.

Mahlangu also agreed that the Municipality would provide AfriForum with an action plan with steps to manage the Eskom matter. He also invited AfriForum to provide input.

“It was decided that AfriForum and the Municipality will meet once a month to discuss and address problems and projects that stem from the wish list for the next month,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Regional Coordinator for Mpumalanga West.

“It is good to know that the Municipality wants to cooperate with AfriForum,” adds Hennie Pretorius, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Secunda branch.
