Recent problems with the electricity supply in the Del Judor area in Witbank (eMalahleni) were brought to the attention of AfriForum, but efforts to obtain answers from the Municipality remained fruitless. Officials cannot be reached at any contact numbers or e-mail addresses supplied on the website of the Municipality.
The civil rights organisation sent a letter to the eMalahleni Municipality, requesting the Municipality to explain the reason for the electricity outages and why the problem has not been addressed. AfriForum is considering legal action, should it be proven that the Municipality had been negligent in this regard.
Ruan Lottering, Organiser for AfriForum in Mpumalanga, is currently working to establish a communication channel with the Municipality, in order to address issues such as corruption, fraud and poor service delivery by means of a public participation process.
