2012 10 16 – Malema has to relinquish his land to Khoisan community

Julius - Rapport

AfriForum Youth said that if he truly believes his own version of history, Julius Malema, former president of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL), should hand his land back to the Khoisan community. AfriForum Youth is of the opinion that Malema is romanticising violence while serious violent crime is already a sad reality in South Africa.

This follows in the wake of a recent speech made by Malema at a glamorous wedding in Harare, Zimbabwe. Among other things, he accused white people of having stolen land and he said that the ANCYL would not flinch if blood had to be shed should white people not want to relinquish their land.

‘Malema’s ancestors also migrated southward and arrived here in South Africa without land.  For this reason, AfriForum Youth is of the opinion that Malema cannot lay claim to the contributions that white people have made to South Africa. It is not only racist to incite violence against a particular community, but it is also short-sighted not to realise that in conflict situations both parties are affected and that violence has no winner, Charl Oberholzer, national chairperson of AfriForum Youth, said.

‘History is complex and to spread a distorted version of it simply amounts to vandalism against every South African who wants to make a positive contribution in this country. As young people we are here to stay and we will not run away from our problems either. No community should step back when it comes to defending the right to peaceful coexistence.
