Civil rights organisation AfriForum welcomes the arrest of three suspects for the murder of heavyweight boxing champion, Corrie Sanders. The organisation also congratulates the police for the swift breakthrough.

Nantes Kelder, the head of AfriForum’s investigating unit says the arrests will not bring Sanders back, but says that it’s crucial for criminals to know that they will be apprehended when they break the law.

The three Zimbabwean men were arrested in the Oukasie informal settlement near Brits, after police followed a tip-off. “It’s time that stricter measures are implemented when foreign nationals enter South Africa,” Kelder says.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Sanders was at the Thatch Haven Country Lodge in Brits on Saturday evening, when armed robbers stormed in and fired shots randomly. Sanders was hit in the hand and stomach and died in the Kalafong hospital in Pretoria-West on Sunday.

Kallie Kriel, AfriForum’s CEO was at the same restaurant when Sanders was shot.
