The legal battle regarding the Tshwane Metro Council’s proposed changing of 25 street names in Pretoria will enter the arena of the Urgent Court of the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria tomorrow.
This follows in response to the Metro Council’s refusal to comply with AfriForum’s request that the implementation of the Council’s decision should be postponed, pending the bringing of a revision application against the proposed street name changes. Last week the Metro Council surprised friend and foe when it became known that the first road sign using a new street name, namely January Masilela Drive in the place of General Louis Botha Avenue, had been erected in Pretoria East by contractors of the Council.
AfriForum’s legal representative, Willie Spies, said that it is regrettable that the Council simply forges ahead to implement its controversial decisions in all haste, while several truly urgent matters regarding service delivery are still not being addressed.
Tomorrow’s court proceedings will take a start at 10:00.
