    2010 07 23 – AfriForum prepares to take legal action against Eskom

    AfriForum has joined the fight to keep the Mafube municipality’s electricity switched on. According to Cornelius Jansen van Rensburg, AfriForum spokesperson on local government, AfriForum will act on behalf of the Frankfort community. A letter was handed to Eskom yesterday, in which Eskom is requested to give the assurance that it will not suspend the electricity supply to the Mafube municipality.

    2010 07 23 – AfriForum cautions that mining activities must be sustainable

    AfriForum has warned that irresponsible mining activities and a lack of coordination and communication amongst the Departments of Mineral Resources, Energy, Environmental Affairs and Water Affairs, are creating a national crisis. This follows after a submission by Ms Mariette Liefferink of the Federation for a Sustainable Environment to Parliament’s portfolio committee on Water Affairs, in which she alleges that millions of litres of acid mine water are currently rising from below Johannesburg to the surface.
